Our Bop 'Til U Drop™ classes are our versions of hip hop classes, and are offered in multiple age and skill levels.
Hip hop refers to street style movements primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of the hip hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles like locking, popping, isolations and primarily breaking which was created in the 1970s and made popular by street dance crews in the United States.
Rhythm & Grace's Bop 'Til U Drop™ classes focus mainly on what is referred to as "new style" hip hop. New Style hip hop is choreographed urban party dancing coupled with studio technique. From a technical aspect, it is characterized as hard-hitting involving flexibility and isolations—moving a specific body part independently from others. The feet are grounded, the chest is down, the posture is hunched, and the body is kept loose so that dancers can easily alternate between hitting the beat or moving through the beat. This style of hip hop is what is often seen on So You Think You Can Dance, America's Best Dance Crew and other television shows.
